Founded in 1990 in the premises of a former cinema in San Gimignano by Mario Cristiano, Lorenzo Fiaschi and Maurizio Rigillo, Galleria Continua’s awe-inspiring premises are in the historic centre of this medieval hilltop town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. My connection with the gallery dates back to 2013 when I did a telephone interview with the founders for Canvas. Over the years, I have kept in touch with their Press Manager Silvia Pichini but as it often happens in life, our paths did not cross until recently when I moved to Italy with my family and received a press release about Antony Gormley’s exhibition at the TAG ART Museum in Qingdao, China, which sparked in me an impromptu piece. This ignited the desire to visit the gallery and to meet the amazing team fuelling a great continuum of art. They quickly won my heart and mind, so when they sent me another invitation to attend the press previews of four exhibitions on the last weekend of September I took an eight-hour journey, setting out from Val Pellice at 9 am and arriving in San Gimignano at 5 pm.
After 48 hours spent among the works of 31 artists showcased in four exhibitions, I arrived home with my mind full of images, colours and thoughts, unsure of where to start documenting this highly sensual artistic adventure. For two weeks, I concentrated on other projects, all the while thinking about everything I had seen during my visit to Galleria Continua where the artist comes first and art is for everyone.
My aim in producing Live The Questions Now is to tell a story of questions and uncertainties. I want to share with you the inseparable story that is art and culture; an enchanting tale - an equaliser, tranquilliser and energiser of people, in all its splendid reflection. Put your arm in mine, exit yourself and enter this vortex.
